are you a runner?

I am running a marathon on Sunday, it is going to rain on Sunday.

I ran this same marathon in 2009 and it rained, not just a drizzle but a full on storm.  It rained every step of the way, and in case you are not up on race distances, a marathon is 26.2 miles.  That is a lot of steps.  A lot of very wet steps.

I seem to get sick at the end of February or early March.  I was sick just prior to running this race three years ago, and I am sick now.

I am desperately hoping that I get healthy in the next few days, I am drinking lots of fluids and taking a slew of natural remedies.  I want to run, and I want to feel good while I am running.

This is the second time I am running the Napa marathon, but the odds are the same.  Sick in the rain.

After Sunday, I will not run this marathon again. (Please remind me of this when I decided sign up again).

If not Napa, then what marathons should I do?  New York, Big Sur, and Portland are on my list of races I will do someday.

Are you a runner? If so what have you run, what would you recommend and what do you look for in a race?

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Happy Running,

Elena

  1. My all time favorite marathon was NY...but Anchorage Alaska was pretty cool too. I LOVE destination marathons...so Chicago, Portland, Big Sur, London all sound great to me too :) I've never run the same marathon twice but if I did I would run CIM (because it was my fastest race) and NY (because nothing beats it!) Hector even agrees that NY is better than Boston :)

  2. Jen, I wanted to do NY this year but we have too much going on so maybe I will get in for 2012, I really want to do it. I am sure Boston is great, but I will never be fast enough to get in.

I did not love CIM, I may do it again, but not for a few years (unless I change my mind and decide I need a race at the end of the year).

  3. I'm not a runner but I commend your passion. A friend of mine and her partner both run marathons all the time and I understand the preparation that goes into it and the strain behind the scenes! Go Mama!

  4. Wow! I'm so incredibly inspired by you marathon runners!

I just started running in November. I ran a 5k last month and I'm running a 10k on the 26th. Eventhough I run now, I still don't consider myself "a runner." Maybe the 10k will boost my confidence a little and I can start saying "I'm a runner!"

  5. It took me a long time to call myself a runner, maybe because I don't look like a runner.

I think signing up for races it the key to keeping going. Good luck on your 10k, if you can do a 10k you could do a 1/2 marathon...somehow it just happens and before you no it you are hooked on running, before you know it you are a runner.

  6. Thanks for stopping by!

I have yet to run my first but am running the inaugural Vancouver USA marathon in June. It's basically in my backyard and fits our schedule. But, the race that got me inspired to run a marathon at all is the LA Marathon, so I'm hoping for that in 2012... that's as long as I even want to do another one after Vancouver :) Had many friends run Portland last year and while I cheered them on I knew Portland would be an amazing run to do as well. Hoping for that in 2012 as well. Lovely that I have the future planned before I've even done 1, isn't it?? But, I'm sure I'll love it. I love childbirth so why wouldn't I love the marathon?
