the path not taken

I have a friend in town.

Our lives are a little different...

She and her coworkers fly on commuter airplane to work each morning.

I drive preschool carpool.

She goes grocery shopping once a month.

I grocery shop one to four times a week.

I have to negotiate every part of my day, my shower, my run, my coffee, everything.

She, well... does not.

I used to dream of being an expat.

Now I day dream of a vacation abroad or down the road with my children and husband in tow.

When I look at my friends that have taken different roads, I think a lot about the choices I have made.

I get to snuggle my babies when they wake up.  We get to picnic in the park, and play in the sun.

There are upsides to each of the paths we choose, this is mine.

Happy Wednesday,

elena

  2. This is a daily struggle for me. I battle a war in my mind everyday. On one hand I am so jealous of the people who seem so "care free", yet on the other hand I value my little life so very very much. At the end of the day, that warmth in my heart that I feel when everyone is snuggled in their beds confirms that I have everything I have ever wanted. Minus the sleep bit. Which would be nice.

  3. Elena,

Although this was a sobering post, I enjoyed reading the comparisons between your life and your friend's life. Each of us seem to have a chosen path to follow, which is different than someone else's path. The grass sometimes make look greener on the "other side" by outside appearances don't always tell the entire story.

At any rate, I am visiting your blog today for the first time. I have enjoyed my visit. I like the title of your blog, "Running In Heels After Child," ha! This title gives me a funny visual. :)

    Take care.

  5. This is a really nice post. As I'm about to leave my job I think I'll constantly be wondering about the different routes we choose to take.

  6. I love this post SO much. I struggle with this a lot too. Like maybe I should or should not be living my life this way or that. Do I work too much, not enough. Is my house too small to big. All that comparing gets me nowhere if you know what I mean. And I love how this post just reminds us that while we all have different paths in life, it is totally ok and it does not mean one is better than the other! Just one fits one person, and one fits another. Brilliant. Thanks for putting that into perspective for me today! I needed it.
